Cider Blog
United States
Приєднався 5 січ 2015
Cider Blog is the place to learn about all aspects of hard cider. In 2012 I co-founded Noble Cider. We started with very little money which forced us to be creative and build a lot of the equipment we use for cider making. I have learned a lot growing this business and am still learning. I put together this channel to share what I have learned and my love of good cider. You can expect to see the following on this channel:
[EQUIPMENT REVIEWS]
I will be reviewing equipment we use in making cider.
[CIDER REVIEWS]
I will be reviewing (and drinking) ciders I think are really excellent from around the world.
[TUTORIALS]
Most of what we do we have figured out by talking to other cider makers and a whole lot of trial and error.
[DIY PROJECTS]
I love DIY which is handy because I also have very limited funds.
[Q and A]
Please send me your questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Cider Blog - Grafting and Growing Apple Trees
Did you know that if you plant a Granny Smith apple seed you don't get a Granny Smith apple tree? If you want to grow a Granny Smith you have to take a cutting from an existing tree and graft it on to a new rootstock.
This week on Cider Blog we take a trip to Lewis Creek Farms to learn about grafting apple trees.
Hard Cider apple varieties we grafted:
Roxbury Russett
Goldrush
Harrison
Medaille d'Or
Harry Master's Jersey
Dabinett
Yarlington Mill
Wickson
Kingston Black
Ashmead's Kernel
Chisel Jersey

Переглядів 1,4 тис.6 років тому
In this cider review I taste Pilton's Somerset Keeved Cider. Made in Somerset England this cider is made from bittersweet cider apples and wild yeast. Keeving is an artisan method for making naturally sweetened cider. www.piltoncider.com Cider Blog Questions: Questions@CiderBlog.com Cider Blog Website: www.ciderblog.com/ Noble Cider Website: www.noblecider.com/

Using IBC Totes for Cider Fermentation Question and Answer
Переглядів 13 тис.6 років тому
We have blogged about how we started off using IBC totes for fermenting hard cider. We have received some questions about how we used them. I will do my best to answer them. 1/2" Racking Cane More Beer: www.morebeer.com/products/racking-cane-12-30-tip.html?a_aid=ciderblog Shurflo Pump 2088-594-154 (no cord) Amazon: www.amazon.com/dp/B0001FAA5Y/ref=asc_df_B0001FAA5Y5353053/?tag=hyprod-20&creativ...
Hello! Thank you so much for the information! Why you stopped to make a video?
Dear friend. Could you tell me the dimensions of 20L fermenter? Diameter and height(included airlock). Many thanks
so if am in warm sunny region (yucatan), its ok if IBC is at 60 C ?
No, 60F
Awesome video and very helpful. I'm walking down this path...starting with IBCs and eventually upgrading.
I wanted information about using the 30 liter fermenter for wine. Your cider info will help. Thanks.
Could you disassemble the spigot to clean? Is it possible?
Have you ever dumped any trub out of the sampling port? I assume it wouldn’t work out too well but I was just wondering.
do you carbonate at all? how does the tote fit in that scenario?
is it suitable for wine making?
Yes. I have used them for various wines and meads.
Man! That was really super useful! :)
Glad to hear it!
i wish you continued your videos...i really liked them... btw, have you ever been to Lands End Farm "Roger Wilkins Cider Farm" in Sommerset? I visited the farm for the 1st time last year and tried his legendary scrumpy and it an amazing experience!
Thank you. Been so busy I that I haven't had much time to do videos. Planning on shooting some new ones soon though. Don't think I have been to Lands End Farm. I'll have to add it to the list of places to visit next time I'm in England.
approximately how many bushels needed to fill a 300 gal IBC full of juice?
Depends on the apples and press process but I would say between 150 and 200 bushels
This was so helpful, I am trying to put a plan together to start a small operation and this made me feel a lot better!!!
Glad it helped you.
Good luck with the cider venture. I'd be interested to, know what your market is? I have several friends who have emigrated to the US; they used to enjoy cider here in Somerset but it's harder for them to find State side! As you’ll know proper farmhouse cider is an accustomed taste. Lots of artisan makers here in the West Country are making clear lightly sparking ciders - they are delicious. You’ll know that Harry Masters Jersey makes for a full bodied rich cider - highly recommended. I’d like to see a video of the end product! Wish my little West Country orchard was the size of yours. It does have considerably more grass, trees are currently stood in water - not good. Trees are only 4 years old. One day I might produce some cider too. Thanks for sharing your venture.
This is great stuff and as far as I can tell no one else is doing it. You need to do more of these!!
Super helpful, thanks for doing these!
This is Totes awesome bro
Dude...it's Spi'del not Spe'del.
My wife has a lot of space in her fermenter also!
Lief, Thanks so much for this video. As an amateur, but hopefully soon to be commercial cider maker, with a shoestring budget, I found this to be incredibly helpful. If you ever make a follow up video, could you please talk about initial cleaning and sterilization of the IBC's as well as how you would store them, after a fermentation, but before beginning another fermentation inside the same vessel. Thanks. Wishing you the best in 2019!
Dude must see more! Load them up.. I like the plastic kegs good find.
I would like to use this set-up for wine kits if I understand you correct that the 20l tops up at 22.5l or 6 gallons?
Hi, thank you so much for this video. How are your experiences with washing and sanitzing ibc containers? Is it a pain in the ass to reach everything?
Do the speidel rubber stoppers fit a 2 inch NPT or do you have to reduce it to make it fit? Cheers
do you have any vids on you using this fermenter?
HOW DOES ONE DRINK CIDER?? HUMMMM............... OPEN YO THROAT HOLE AND KINDA LET IT FLOW DOWN! THEN REPEAT!
I wasn't able to find the review of the 60 litre speidel fermenter. Did you end up making the video? I was really looking forward to seeing it! Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks John! I haven't made the 60L review yet but intend to soon. I have both types of 60L fermenters that they make and will compare them.
Hello fellow brewer! This link might help you ua-cam.com/video/W6hn4jMSrp4/v-deo.html
Wow, what a great video! Thanks for posting!
Great video. Very interesting. Thanks. R.
Grateful, thanks.
I am the letter "R" who asks about the bubbler. Thanks for answering that question for me. I came across this video using Google. I didn't know I would be featured. I know it's silly, but that kinda made my day. BTW, I staretd my first commercial fermentation this week. In a tote. R.
Nice! Saw you also posted on Cider Workshop. Looks like you got some good advice there. Hope your fermentation goes well. Let me know if you have any other questions.
Oh there are waaaay too many questions, Lief. Keep up the video blog, this is invaluable stuff. R.
Great video, thank you
Thank you for posting this!
Your very welcome.
Hey, thanks for the vid! After just completing the build of my own press and scratter just in time for apple season (in AUS) Im geeking out on cider in a big way at the moment. I'd be really keen to know more about Keeving!
Thank you for putting this together!
